The Great Gatsby

Over the last few years I have come to love going to the theatre. The Temple of Music and Arts downtown plays 6 plays every season and one of those was "The Great Gatsby". In High School we read the book and I fell in love with the story and the characters, with the exception of Tom Buchanan. My Grandma Barb always likes to take me because she knows how much I love books and plays, but secretly I think she likes them more than I do!

Usually we go out to dinner and then head to the theatre but my Grandma sometimes struggles with technology and accidentally bought tickets for the matinee at 2:00pm online. So after my morning classes I met my beloved Grandmother and instead of dinner we went to lunch at my old place of employment, Mimi's Cafe, and it wasn't half bad. After 6 glasses of Raspberry Tea, 2 muffins and salads, and maybe a bathroom break later we headed to the theater.

If you have never read "The Great Gatsby"or it has been a while since you were in High School, here is a refresher:

THE DEATH OF THE AMERICAN DREAM. To find out more you with have to not be lazy and read this phenomenal story. When you finish reading you will probably understand why I HATE Tom Buchanan so much.

On a side note: The 2:00pm Matinee was so packed full of old people, I could smell and feel myself getting older!

First we went to the box office to redeem our tickets.
TMA is so old, yet so beautiful

Grandmas was lookin' for the next performance
she could take me to!

Then we headed to the balcony where our seats were. The best seats in the house by far. Three rows high and center stage.

But we had to wait a little while to get to get to the balcony because there were too many little old ladies and men with canes. So I waited patiently( I am a super impatient person) and took the photo opportunity.

When we finally got in Grandma had to use the restroom so I waited, again. The Theatre Company put a lot of pictures and history on the walls to read. So I did just that! I forgot how good a writer F.Scott Fitzgerald really is, what a talent!

While I was still waiting for Grams I came across this sign. There was pyrotechnics and Fog in the show. A.K.A we are giving you a forewarning, Asthmatics!

After bumping into 8 people, and 4 "I'm sorries" later finally made it to our seats. They were great!
"Owl Eyes" If you read the book, you can relate to the sage curtain.
The play lasted 2 hours with a standard 15 minute intermission. It was spectacular! The stage design and flow of the performance was flawless! If you ever get a chance to go to the theatre...go!

Hope life is better for you than it was for Jay Gatz!
