Thanks, Readers!

YOU ARE IN CHARGE

Dear Readers,

Thank you very much for your support and dedication through this new journey in my life.  I have been so blessed to have many followers and positive feedback over the last few months. With that being said, I would like to give my readers the opportunity to read what they want to read. I am starting a "Take over my blog month"! You are in charge. I will be posting one last blog on American Education Sunday March 18, 2012 and that will be the last personal blog from me for a while. The "Take over my blog month" will end April 18, 2012. For one month I will ONLY be writing and discussing issues that you would like to read about. Issues could be a broad as pros and cons to controversial isssues, issues of the White House, movie reviews, restaurant reviews, local issues, or even a simple Q and A.

Here is the catch! If I don't receive any feedback I will lose motivation and my blog archive will remain empty until April 18, 2012. I have been ecstatic at the number of viewers and positive comments over the last few months and only plan/want to make my blog better for you.

If you want to enhance Ginger In The Rye here is the way to do it:
  • Send an e-mail to gingerintheryeblog@gmail.com
  1. Leave your name including if you would like to be mentioned in the blog entry.
  2. Leave your topic in full clarity including talking points,  and any questions or concerns.
  3. Keep reading, and always let me know if there is anything I can do to make GITR better!
  4. Believe in me, and believe in yourself!

THANKS AGAIN!

Because I am forever indebted to you,

ICE sCREAM while U-SWIRL!

After my sister's bridal shower bash the following Sunday my parents and I decided to go out to eat  to take a break from cooking and cleaning. We decided to eat at Rubio's. Not one of my favorite places to eat but my starving stomach definitely enjoyed the "Street Tacos"! But here is where my new obsession comes in! U-Swirl Located on Broadway just past Dodge! U-Swirl is a new(er) Frozen Yogurt place that sells Frozen Yogurt by the ounce much like B.T.O(By.The.Ounce---Clever!), Pinkberry, Tutti Fruitti, or ZoYo!

If it is one thing that I(or any of my friends)could tell you about me is my obsession with Ice Cream, and now because of my place of employment, Custard! There is nothing that can cure a bad day like Ben and Jerry! But since I got started on this Frozen Yogurt (FROYO) stuff I would give up Ice Cream in a heart (attack) beat!

For those that are not familiar with FROYO, here is how it works.

1) Find the start of the line!

2) Grab a cup at the start of the line!

3) Pick your flavors and U-Swirl them into your own cup!

4) Pick your toppings!

5) Weigh your FroYo and pay. It's worth the Weight! Trust me!
6) Find a place to sit in the super-cool retro friendly environment!

7) Start eating and take pictures for your blog!

Thanks for your support Mum and Dad!

8)Read the cup and feel better about what you're eating!

Does this apply after my 3rd or 4th scoop of Butterfinger!?!

9) Clean the cup! Smile! Recycle!
10) Repeat. Probably not on the same day though!

While my parents and I were enjoying our delicious treats I couldn't help but think of how these creations and stores started around the country. So tonight I put all of my energy into researching places like these!

Here is what I found!
  • Frozen yogurt originated in New England in the 70’s and it was an instant sensation.
  •  Its popularity caused it to quickly spread throughout the United States and around the world.
  • Ice cream companies promoted frozen yogurt as a tasty treat for those who were watching their diets and needed a low fat alternative to regular ice cream that still tasted good.
  • Frozen yogurt was actually a fad back in the 80's and the early 90's.
  • People were in love with the alternative taste to ice cream due to the fact it was lower in calories and had some health benefits. However, as more reduced fat ice-creams appeared in the mid 90’s, the sales and popularity of frozen yogurt plummeted.
  • That all changed in 2005.
  • Shelly Hwang and Young Lee originally wanted to open an English teahouse, but were denied permits to open one. They quickly decided to open up a shop that would revive the 80's yogurt frenzy. They opened their first Pinkberry yogurt store in January 2005.
  • After one month, profits were already reeling in.
  • People were soon driving across town and standing in line for up to 20 to 30 minutes to get their fix of "the taste that launched 1,000 parking tickets".
  • The second store opened in September of 2006, and since then, stores have been springing up all over Southern California and also branches in New York.
  • And now there have been hundreds of other imitators across the country.
  • The rest is history!

So the real question is how do U-Swirl?

If you haven't already, give U-Swirl a try!

Hope life is beautiful wherever you are!

Ms. Porter, For The Last Time.

Well, not really the last time, she isn't getting married till April. Oh, and this is my sister that I am talking about. This past Saturday March 10 we hosted my sister Stephanie's bridal shower at my grandma Barb's house. The theme was a Garden Bridal Shower, and everyone was told to wear there favorite hat which made for some interesting photos.

But to start what does any good party need!?!
Invitations

The party didn't start till 2:00pm which meant some serious setting up. I mean we had close to 40 people crazy women at the house.  Here are some setting up pics.

There were balloons to be tied.

Ice to be dumped.

Drinks to be poured.

Food to be filled.

Chocolate to be melted.

Garden tables to be set.

Bridesmaid presents to open.

Pre-Party pictures to take and drinks to be drunk.

Then I lost my car keys. Then the guests started to trickle in!

Then we played some games and ate some food!

Games played:
  • How well do you know Stephanie?
  • What's in your purse?
  • Who can make the best wedding dress out of toilet paper?

They were the winners for their
 fun/multicultural dress!

Then we played with some babies!

And lastly watched Stephanie open some of her gifts!
Kristin was the recorder! She did a great job of writing down all the gifts and the name of the givers!

Wifey!

Somebody is going to Europe on her honeymoon!

After the shower we cleaned up and the girls headed to Steph's for a sleepover! And Kristin needed to take care of some business!

First things first we let off the balloons in the front yard!

Then we got some Pizza! Pictures from the car ride to Eclectic Pizza, because my sister is Gluten Free! Lookin' a little rough ladies!

Open container?

Sisterly love...or annoyance!

Check out that rock!

She is an educator!

Steady like a surgeon!

Stephanie serenading me!

Man I need to clean my rear view mirror!

Best friends!

Bridesmaids!

Group shot!

Jessica loves pizza!

I mean really loves it!

After this picture it all went blank!

Hope you had a great bridal shower! Love you Steph! Hope life is beautiful wherever you are!
